I stumbled upon the word 'Hiraeth' really accidentally. It's a Welsh word that has no direct English translation but it's centred around the feelings of homesickness over places, things and people we've lost. When I learned the definition it just resonated with me and it felt like a great jumping off point lyrically. The clarity that comes with letting go is where the lyrics and song has its roots. The song is sort of like a tribute to that feeling of seeing yourself in a really transparent way with all your faults laid bare and having to accept where you are now...
